Dr. Larry A. Sargent started the Tennesse Craniofacial Center (TCC) in 1987. After completing his medical training at Emory University and John Hopkins Hospital, he studied Craniofacial Surgery with Dr. Paul Tessier in Paris, France. He served as Director of Craniofacial Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center before moving to Chattanooga in 1987.
In 1989 the Craniofacial Foundation of America (CFA) was established as a support system for qualified patients traveling to the Center for evaluaton and treatment. The CFA is a non profit 501(c)3 organization that supports the work of the TCC at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital and Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. The mission of the CFA is to create better tomorrows for patients with facial birth defects, tumors and trauma-related injuries. Tennessee Craniofacial Center
The Tennessee Craniofacial Center, at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital and Erlanger Medical Center, is located in Chattanooga, Tennesee. The Center specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients of all ages with craniofacial deformities. Our services cover a broad range of reconstructive operations for the treatment of deformities of the face and skull resulting from birth defects, tumors, and trauma.
Dr. Larry A. Sargent, M.D. is the Medical Director of the Tennessee Craniofacial Center. He is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in craniofacial surgery and maxillofacial trauma. Dr. Sargent is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery and plastic surgery training at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Sargent is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and board certified in plastic surgery.
Leslie Turner, MSN, ACNP-BC, joined the Tennessee Craniofacial Center in March 2010 as the coordinator. Leslie is a board certified acute care nurse practitioner from Vanderbilt University with a background in reconstructive plastic surgery. She served as the nurse practitioner for the burn intesive care unit at Erlanger from 2002-2008. Most recently she worked as a hospital based nurse practitioner for the Chattanooga Heart Institute before joining the Tennessee Craniofacial Center to fulfill her passion of working with these specialized children. She is excited to be a part of this multi-disciplinary team and looks forward to providing the specialized care and compassion that each child and family deserves.
